Connecting Different Types of Data Using Channels
One of the main purposes of Channels is to allow RAGFish to work with different types of data sources. Business information is usually not stored in a single format. For example:
- HR documents may be stored as PDF files
- Sales information may be stored in Excel
- Customer information may be stored in SQL databases
- Technical information may be stored in Word documents
- Product information may be available across multiple documents
Channels allow these different sources to be configured according to their data type.
Example
A company creates:
HR Channel — Contains:
- Employee Handbook.pdf
- Leave Policy.pdf
- Attendance Policy.pdf
Sales Channel — Contains:
- Sales_2026.xlsx
- Monthly_Sales.xlsx
Customer Channel — Connected to:
- Customer Database
- Customer Details Table
- Purchase Details Table
Channels provide a structured way to bring different types of business information into the RAG environment.
Overall Summary:
PDF → Document Channel → Upload documents
Excel → Excel Channel → Upload Excel files
Database → Database Channel → Connect database → Select tables
This channel-based approach allows RAGFish to organize different business data sources according to their data type and make the information available within the RAG environment
